My review: Death Note

Zen and I caught the movie yesterday at Vivocity (the new giant shopping mall opposite Sentosa, for the benefit of clan members who aren't in Singapore).

Depressing news

Forbes has listed Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain as the top-earning dead celebrity. The list said that grunge rocker Cobain earned $50 million between October 2005 and October 2006. The dollar amounts are based on licensing deals for using the deceased celebrities' work or image in advertising or elsewhere. I don't know what is more depressing; that a dead man earn more than I do or that a great artist like Cobain is being sold down the material path...the same money path he would never be caught in if he was alive. It's just sad.

Stupid keeper

Amazingly, Englang NO.1 goalkeeper Paul Robinson says he does not understand why he has come in for so much criticism after England's 2-0 defeat to Croatia. I am sorry but after the way he mis-kicked Gary Neville's back-pass to gift Croatia it's second goal, he don't know why he is being taken apart! Ok it was a total fluke but Robinson's horror moment was what finished the game off. Come on, just go out there and say sorry and the whole thing would blow over. Stupid.

The haze has eyes!

Finally, the Singapore government are admitting that the air quality in Singapore are at an unhealthy level. At 7pm, the pollutant standards index (PSI) was recorded at 126. What I want to know is what was the reading for past few days? For the past 2-3 days, the reading for Singapore was between 50 to 70. This is even when the reading in Malaysia and Indon was well over a hundred. This means that for the past 2-3 days, the haze has eyes and has bypass Singapore. What do you guys think?

Bad news for Playstation

Bad news for all u Playstation fans out there. There had been several reports that Sony's much-anticipated PlayStation 3 had performed badly in tests. So much so that it dragged Sony shares down in Tokyo.
The technical problems for the PlayStation 3 must be quite bad as Sony had already twice delay the product's launch. PlayStation 3 units on display at the Tokyo Game Show operated erratically and had to be repeatedly reset. For such a problem to occur so close to full production is clearly negative news for the company. Even more so because Sony denied that there was any technical problem with the PlayStation 3.
The PlayStation 3 will hit stores in Japan on Nov. 11 and in the United States on Nov. 17. Sony spokesman said that any problems at the Tokyo Game Show, where Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo showed off rival offerings under the same roof, were likely caused by one-of-a-kind temperature irregularities. Hopefully so or they are really in trouble!

Iron Man!!!

Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to play the title role in Iron Man. Downey will play Tony Stark, the billionaire industrialist/brilliant inventor, who, after a near-fatal accident, builds a high-tech, nearly impenetrable suit of armor that gives him superhuman strength and other powers, which he uses to fight the baddies.
I like this casting as Stark is a character that has fought personal demons such as alcoholism--something to which Downey can relate it. Also Stark has a bit of a dark side, see the ongoing Civil War, and Downey could be the best actor for the character.
Jon Favteau (costar of another Marvel adaption, Daredevil), will helm Iron Man. The budget is said to be around $100 million.
